Puerto Rico is one of the jurisdictions in the world that has administered the most vaccines against COVID-19

Puerto Rico ranks sixth among the jurisdictions in the world to have administered the highest number of doses of COVID-19 vaccines, according to a report updated Wednesday by the Financial Times, a newspaper specializing in economics and business.

According to the report, which gathers and analyzes data from various official sources of information, the island is surpassed only by the United States – which is on a separate line and takes into account all its states -, the United Kingdom, Barain (a country Middle East), the United Arab Emirates and Israel, which occupies the first position. The report is an analysis of the number of vaccines administered per 100 inhabitants.

In a tweet, Governor Pedro Pierluisi celebrated the report and congratulated the Ministry of Health, Secretary Carlos Mellado and the work team dedicated to the island-wide vaccination plan, “as well as the Guard for the support provided in this effort. don’t rest until everyone has been vaccinated! “

According to the most recent data reported by Health, the island has received it 270,750 doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which were distributed 221,426 and managed 136,682. The difference between distributed and registered is, according to Mellado, due to the fact that vaccines are delivered to providers who are ready to be administered, or are already being administered to individuals, but are not registered in the system whose figures are published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“The challenges are great, but greater is the work the vaccination team is doing to immunize our people,” said the health minister in response to the Financial Times report.
