Puerto Rican youth surprises “American Idol” judges with his vote

A 19-year-old Puerto Rican girl vows to make a difference in the renowned American Idol program after wowing judges with her audition.

Alanis Sophia appeared before Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to sing Demi Lovato’s song “Anyone”, which impressed all three judges.

The young woman lives in Wesley Chapel, Florida, but was born in San Juan and told the jury that when she was little, her mother gave her a game of the program in the form of a microphone. “She always said she would be on the show, it was always a dream,” said Alanis Sophia.

The university student even brought tears to Katy Perry, who praised the young Puerto Rican. “You have enough confidence, but you are also pure because you sell your voice, yourself, your story, and you do it so well from now on. You don’t know and you don’t need to know, it’s just natural,” she said.

Richie, for his part, emphasized the “purity” in the young singer’s voice. “I have loved the simplicity of your art and I think you have enormous potential,” he added.

While Luke Bryan called the experience of hearing her sing “wonderful.”

At the end of the audition, Alanis Sophia’s mother entered the studio where the judges wanted to meet her so she could tell them the story of the origin of her name.

The three then voted to send the young woman to the next round of competition in Hollywood.
