Puerto Rican soldiers leave for Joe Biden’s inauguration

More than 200 Puerto Rican soldiers left this morning to assist in the inauguration of the President of the elected American, Joe Biden.

The soldiers belong to the 92nd brigade and will be mobilized to be part of the more than 20 thousand soldiers that will be in the federal capital. All soldiers had reportedly been vaccinated against COVID-19 and tested for the virus.

“This type of mission is part of the support that the Puerto Rico National Guard has been providing for over 30 years to presidential inauguration ceremonies in the federal capital. While we are strongly focused on fighting COVID-19 in the island, we are also fulfilling our federal mission to support the honorable traditions of the nation and the continuity of the democratic system that we all enjoy. We are proud to be a part of this historic event, ”said Puerto Rico’s Adjutant General Major General José J. Reyes.

“Grateful to our Puerto Rico National Guard soldiers who left today to say a gift in defense of democracy at the inauguration of the new President of the United States, Joe Biden. Our soldiers always fill us with pride for their efforts and dedication, my respect for them always, ”said Pedro R. Pierluisi, the governor of Puerto Rico.

This comes on demand after clashes with supporters of President Donald Trump, who has insisted that the last Nov. 3 election was fraudulent, although he has provided no concrete evidence.

Related note:

Military support has been caught a glimpse since early yesterday, when the United States House of Representatives would vote on Trump’s residency.

Indeed, in the afternoon, the legislative body approved the impeachment by 232 votes to 197 against, with 10 Republican congressmen joining the majority.

Now it would be up to the Senate to conduct the political trial against the president, who has been the first to attend twice, but the outlook is not very clear and the trial is not expected to end before the inauguration of the new administration.

Likewise, another reason Biden’s Transition Committee has called for more reinforcement for the ceremony may be the fact that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) itself alerted authorities that it is planning dozens of pro-Trump protests in every state.
