PS5 player warns of most bizarre DualSense controller problem ever

It is said that a new problem is emerging for PlayStation 5 players – especially those who may be wearing a watch. Some who have used the PS5’s DualSense controller have found that the device is slightly magnetized. While this may not mean much to most people, players who wear mechanical watches may want to be careful.

This information came about through Reddit where a user named Siguchi reported the first details. The post states that while the DualSense controller may not damage your mechanical watch, the handheld device definitely releases a magnetic charge. Multiple users in the thread have then reconfirmed this and confirmed it to be true. One user even compared the DualSense to the DualShock 4 and found that the former has a much stronger charge than the latter.

PSA: Do not wear a mechanical watch when using the r / PS5 DualSense

While this may be a cause for concern for some, it doesn’t look like the DualSense’s charge is strong enough to do serious damage to a watch you might be wearing. In further tests, the wire’s original poster found that the magnetic intensity drops to fairly normal levels just inches away from the controller. This means that even if you’re wearing a mechanical watch, it probably won’t be affected.

Yet this whole situation is absolutely fascinating to learn about. While there’s a lot more going on internally compared to previous PlayStation controllers, it’s surprising to learn that the DualSense actually emits a small electromagnetic field. Apparently, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers require certain forms of technology that we were not expecting.

So how do you feel about this revelation? And worry that you’re now wearing a watch or other device while playing on your PS5? Let me know in the comments or give me a call on Twitter @ Jeroen1988 if you want to chat more.
