Aldo Álvarez, National Secretary of Communications for Democratic Change, firmly rejected the food bags being for the party.

Hours after a video published on Twitter by the Teleprensa Noticiero, which shows a truck unloading bags of food that the government has delivered to a place with the colors and CD label circulating on the networks; the public prosecutor’s office came on site to carry out the respective investigations.

“@FGR_SV is investigating packages designed to support citizens during the # COVID19 pandemic, within a property associated with a political party,” the prosecution reported on Twitter.

Attorney General Raúl Melara reported that the procedure was the same as that followed in a raid on the headquarters of a political party that had stockpiled solidarity packages.

“Aid must go where it is needed and must not be used for the electoral advantage of any party,” prosecutor Raúl Melara said on Twitter.

Melara assured that the boxes have not been moved from the site and that they have received documentation that will be delivered to those who need it, but that the investigation continues.

“Our job is to ensure that the boxes found yesterday are actually delivered to the people. Any clue someone wants to take advantage of is investigated. No one in El Salvador should tolerate more than a political party seeking to take advantage of public money, ”he said.

The prosecution has ordered the police to intervene on the site on Friday evening to carry out the respective actions and deduct responsibilities.

“The Functional Directorate has turned to the PNC so that it immediately takes the relevant actions and can deduce responsibilities,” the prosecution posted on its Twitter account.

The prosecution explained that they have been through the necessary procedures since they became aware of the situation through the video posted on Twitter.

The announcement comes shortly after ARENA deputy, Carlos Saade, reported that he would file a notice with the prosecution for the government’s alleged delivery of food packages to the Democratic Change party (CD).

The Diario de Hoy consulted the authorities of the political institute and in this regard, Aldo Álvarez, the party’s national communications secretary, stated plainly that the food parcels are not for CDs.

“I say with force that this was not an activity of the CD, we have criticized ourselves in the past that they give things to buy voices, to a lesser extent that we will do it, besides, they are packages that are for the people and come from public money and not, they have nothing to do in election campaigns, ”said Álvarez.

As he said, they are renting part of the property that appears in the video for the CD headquarters and sharing the parking lot with other offices that also rent the rest of the space to an NGO that owns the entire infrastructure.

“In fact our premises are closed, I assume it must be an activity related to a Veterans Association, we share the parking lot and sometimes when journalists have arrived we go because of the size to the covered parking lot, the premises (from CD ) are small, ”argued Álvarez.

He added that there are about 4 more offices on the side of the property and the CD is only renting a part that is at the back. “The side section is rented to a veterans association,” he explains.

In a series of tweets published by the Teleprensa account, another video is seen in which a man appears explaining that they have a place next to the CD party.

“This is the CD office, there is the welcome CD and this is our office here, this is our office, we started and we are not counting five, so you are not going to see propaganda here yet, but let’s go to have our banners and they will see our chairs and desks because we do not charge the veterans, we are poor and we will remain poor, but they must have their benefits, ” said the man speaking in the video.

“In the premises of 5th. Poniente street is identified with the colors of the CD, but the Veterans Common Good Unification Table assured that it is renting a space instead and that the food parcels are for them,” said the Teleprensa tweet. belongs to the video.

Then, the same man explains in another Teleprensa tweet in the video that the property they are renting is where “the historic FMLN and the military are united” who fought during the war, “this is where we hold our meetings, January 31. Veteran’s Day through a legislative agreement and so we asked for help, no government had helped us, ”said the war veteran.

This comes a day after the CD backed its support as a party to the candidacy of former Home Secretary Mario Durán, who is running for mayor of San Salvador for the New Ideas party.
