“There is an open file, just like we did here when packages were found at an ARENA headquarters, just like we did when packages were found at a Democratic Change headquarters, the prosecutor’s office obviously watches over the interests of the state and it is our obligation to confirm that there were indeed aid packages intended for Salvadorans in Mexico… ”said Attorney General Raúl Melara this Sunday.

The officer provided the statements after issuing his votes in the elections of Supreme Court magistrates (CSJ).

The investigation came after El Faro published that on December 24, 2020, the 1,500 parcels had been distributed, which corresponds to 30 tons of food.

The distribution took place on December 24, 2020 and was later published on the official irrigation sector Facebook page number 6, highlighting that Cazares “in support of the houses of the various ejidos that make up the irrigation module delivered today, December 24, 2020, the number of 1,500 well-stocked pantries, equivalent to 30 tons of food ”.

To date, Nayib Bukele’s government has been silent about those 30 tons of food paid for by public funds from Salvadoran citizens.

After learning of the news of the distribution of the packages in Mexico, delegates responded days ago asking that both the Public Prosecution Service and the Court of Audit investigate what happened officially.

Lawmakers agree that the packages are bought with money from loans that “all Salvadorans will pay.” So an in-depth investigation is needed to find out who gave the order, they said.
