Prince Royce: “I never thought I would get a Guinness record”

The song “Carita de inocente” earned its composer, producer and recording artist Prince Royce a Guinness World Records award for being at number one on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart with the most weeks.

Guinness records are a part of everyone’s life, including mine. I remember when I was little I marveled at those who were in the book that came out every year. As an artist I never thought I would get a prize for breaking a Guinness record ”, Royce told Efe.

“The fact that I achieved it with a bachata excites me even more. For me it is a way to continue to honor the Dominican Republic and all the sacrifice and love of my parents, ”he added.

“Carita de inocente”, which is part of the double album “ALTER EGO”, with which Prince Royce celebrated his 10 years of artistic career, topped the Billboard chart Tropical Airplay from March 28 to October 17, 2020.

“It is a great pleasure and honor to reward the Latin music star Prince Royce. His great success ‘Carita de inocente’ was # 1 for 29 consecutive weeks, making him an inspiration to the Latino community. We are delighted to welcome him to the Guinness World Records family, ”said Spencer Cammarano, who is in charge of the records presentation.

The previous 18-week record was shared by “Danza Kuduro”, their success Don Omar and Lucenzo in 2010, and “Inmortal”, the most popular song on the album released by the Bachata band Aventura last year.

In addition, “Carita de inocente” was replaced by “Lotería”, another Royce song, which has been in first place for 9 weeks.

For Royce, this year also nominated for a Latin Grammy for “ALTER EGO”, this recognition is “also special because it is something unexpected”.

“I didn’t make the album think in numbers. In fact, I released it despite many telling me it was a mistake to release a double album, one of which was only bachatas, ”he added.

In addition, it was released just a month before the (covid-19) pandemic started. I really thought it would be a total failure, but on the contrary. It has given me some of the greatest satisfaction of my career, ”he acknowledged.

With “Carita de inocente”, Royce also became the third artist with the most songs at number one on the Tropical Airplay chart, with a total of 19. The first are Marc Anthony with 32 songs and Víctor Manuelle with 28.
