Prince Philip thought Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview was ‘madness’

Prince Philip reportedly thought his grandson Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive Oprah Winfrey interview was “madness”.

Philip, who died Friday at the age of 99, also felt that “ nothing good would come from ” the tell-all of early March, his biographer Gyles Brandreth wrote in the Daily Mail on Sunday.

Markle sent shockwaves through the royal household when she claimed during the interview that undisclosed members of the family expressed concern about son Archie’s skin color.

“I know from someone close to him that he thought Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey was ‘madness’ and that ‘nothing good was going to come of it,'” Brandreth wrote, referring to The Duke of Edinburgh.

“I was not surprised because that’s how he described to me the personal TV interviews given by Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in the 1990s”

But Philip was not bothered by the timing, according to Brandreth. However, he was critical of the couple’s public proclamation of their personal affairs.

“The fact that the interview with Meghan and Harry was broadcast while Philip was in the hospital didn’t bother him,” Brandreth wrote.

What did worry him was the couple’s preoccupation with their own problems and their willingness to talk about them publicly. “At least give TV interviews,” he said, “but don’t talk about yourself.”
