Prince Philip had ‘only one complaint’ about Queen Elizabeth during their 73-year marriage, the author claims

Prince Philip had “only one complaint” about Queen Elizabeth II during their 73-year marriage.

The Duke of Edinburgh would grumble that the reigning monarch was “always on the phone,” his biographer Gyles Brandreth claimed.

On Wednesday, the royal author appeared on the British TV show “Lorraine”, where he shared some insights about Philip based on 40 years of friendship.

‘He said to me,’ God, she never has the phone. Never on the phone. Who is she talking to? Brandreth recalls, as quoted by the UK’s DailyMail.

“It was the only time he ever complained about the queen,” Brandreth shared. He knew his whole life supported the queen. He never put a foot wrong, he always showed up on the right day, the right uniform, on time, one step behind her. ‘

The biographer said that Elizabeth often called her race manager in the evenings to talk about her horses, one of her passions.

Philip, who has spent more than seven decades supporting his wife, died on April 9 at the age of 99. He is known as Britain’s longest-serving consort.

During his lifetime, Philip fulfilled more than 20,000 royal assignments to advance British interests at home and abroad. He ran hundreds of charities, founded programs that helped British schoolchildren participate in challenging outdoor adventures, and was instrumental in raising his four children, including his eldest son, Prince Charles, the heir apparent.

The Queen, a very private person not known for giving extravagant displays of affection, once publicly referred to him as “her rock.” Philip called his wife Lilibet from behind the doors of the palace; but in conversation with others he called her “the queen.”

When Elizabeth was crowned queen in 1953, Philip did not need an easy and rich life. Instead, he promoted British industry and science, supported environmental conservation long before it became fashionable, and traveled extensively and often to support his many charities.

In those frequent public appearances, Philip developed a reputation for being impatient and demanding, and was at times blunt to the point of rudeness.

When Philip turned 90 in 2011, the royal family told the BBC he was “winding down”, adding that he “had done my part”. It wasn’t until 2017 that Philip announced his intention to relinquish royal duties.
