Prince Charles pays tribute to his father Prince Philip

“My dear Dad was a very special person who I think would have been especially amazed at the response and the moving things that have been said about him, and from that point of view, we, my family, are immensely grateful for all that.”, Prince Charles said in a statement from Highgrove House, his country house in Tetbury, Gloucestershire, “It will support us in this particular loss and in this very sad time.”

Prince Philip died peacefully at Windsor Castle on Friday morning at the age of 99. He was the longest-serving consort in the country – a term given to the husband of a reigning monarch.
He will be buried next Saturday.

“Above all, I wanted to say that my father, I suppose over the past 70 years, has rendered the most remarkable, devoted service to the Queen, to my family and to the country, as well as to the entire Commonwealth,” said Prince Charles.

Prince Philip’s long-standing funeral plans had been modified to respect certain Covid-19 restrictions, removing all the usual elements involving contact with the public.

Prince Philip’s death has been marked in a gloomy way, as the royal family and British government have asked the public not to collect or leave flowers at royal residences, while the country is still under strict Covid-19 restrictions.
