Primary school in West Sussex, UK lashes out at mothers’ ‘skinny’ clothes

A primary school in West Sussex, England, admonished parents to pick up their children in miniskirts, low-cut tops and other clothing that ‘looks like underwear,’ said The sun

A letter sent to families by Seymour Primary School entitled ‘Playground Etiquette’ reportedly asked that parents dress appropriately when dropping off or picking up their children. “Wearing clothes that are too skinny or for other times of the day is not a good example,” the letter said, according to The Sun.

Response among parents was mixed, according to the tabloid. “I’ve seen mothers in dressing gowns and slippers, and one with a sheer mini skirt and crop top on a cold spring day – you could literally see everything,” The sun quoted one as saying. However, another apparently called the letter “over the top” and took offense at its tone.

In response, the school issued a statement to a local news outlet, the Crawley Observer, which noted that the letter had generated ‘national headlines’. “While well-intended as a guide,” the statement said, “the school acknowledges that the wording could have been less prescriptive.”
