The president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, responded on Twitter on Monday to the trial that began in New York against the alleged Honduran drug dealer Geovanny Fuentes Ramírez.
In a series of reports, the president stressed that he will continue to fight the drug trade until the last day of his presidency and that the charges against him are based on false testimony.
“What would be really news is if the reports about the Cachiros and the others no longer ignore the obvious fact: that many headlines are based on false testimonials from narco’s whose lies are to retaliate, reduce their punishments and receive other benefits, ”said Hernández.

He pointed out that the lies of the drug traffickers they are clear, and he said the Cachiros had a billion dollar empire. His false testimony is that the drug traffickers were able to make deals with me.

The head of the executive recalled that before assuming the presidency in 2013, the Cachiros met in Belize with the Drug Control Administration (DEA) and with US prosecutors to offer their surrender.
“If the drug traffickers could buy impunity from me, which is their false testimony, neither the Cachiros nor the others would have given up,” he said.

He added that the actions of these defendants in the United States contradict their false testimony, noting that the only reason the Cachiros surrendered to the U.S. justice system was because they knew the government of Honduras he wouldn’t make deals with “drug traffickers and murderers,” who, if they wanted a deal, would have to talk to the United States.
