However, the 56th deputy representing the qualified majority in the Legislative Assembly has sparked a political lawsuit between two allied political parties, New Ideas and GANA.
President Nayib Bukele addressed the country this Sunday, just over a week after the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) officially announced the results of the 2021 parliamentary and municipal elections.
On the national network, Bukele announced that the new Assembly, with a majority of the ruling party, “will not negotiate with ARENA and the FMLN.” The president affirmed that “the mandate of the people” is not to negotiate with those parties.
With this, Bukele makes it clear that the New Ideas – GANA alliance will be in effect, to the point that it has already closed the door for the ruling party to negotiate with the political opposition in the next term. The president, on the other hand, said they are open to negotiating with other sectors.
The TSE confirmed, after the latest investigation, that the ruling party received the highest number of votes in the last election.
However, the 56th deputy representing the qualified majority in the Legislative Assembly has sparked a political dispute between two allied political parties, New Ideas and the Great Alliance for National Unity (GANA).

This, after the presiding magistrate of the TSE, Dora Esmeralda Barahona, representative of the GANA party, wrote on her Twitter account on Friday night that the New Ideas party had 55 delegates and a day later 56.
The truth is, the TSE recognizes that NI has 46 pure deputies, 10 in coalition, 9 of which were proposed by NI and one by the GANA party, which corresponds to the Cabañas department.
GANA credits it for being suggested by them. The reality, however, is that both parties are allies and together form 61 qualified majority votes.
