In partnership with Universal Music Group, Pokémon is commemorating a quarter century of its beloved video games, mobile apps, and more throughout the year with a series of artists who P25 Music. The Post Malone concert will kick off the series, and more details about the celebration will be revealed at the end of the rapper’s show.
In the run-up to the Post Malone concert, The Pokémon Company International will also host a Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event on Saturday, February 20 and distribute a special password on February 25 so that players can add a special Pikachu to their Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games. “In keeping with the music theme for the year, this Pikachu knows the Sing movement, which he normally can’t learn,” notes a release.
Also on February 27, fans can prepare for Posty’s concert later in the evening by watching a curated selection of music-themed episodes of the Pokémon animated series via Pokémon TV, either on the web or by downloading the app.
Prior to the concert, Malone answered questions for Billboard via email about why Pokémon’s 25th anniversary means so much to him and how this live stream show is “one of the coolest things I’m a part of”. Watch the Q&A below.
You organized a virtual concert in honor of Nirvana last spring. What can fans expect this time?
They will just have to tune in and watch! The Pokémon team has done so much work – this is one of the coolest things I’ve been a part of. There may also be some surprises. It will be very nice.
What do you think of the current state of live performances? How have you adapted?
I think live streaming has been a great way to keep the music going, support some good causes, partner with cool brands, and give some ass.
Do you think live stream performances will stick?
It is difficult to predict. I would like live music to return to where it was. I know I can’t wait to get back to live music.
You’re ready for some big Grammy nominations for 2021, including record of the year and album of the year. What did you think of the continued success and recognition of Hollywood’s bleeding and have been hit singles since their release in 2019?
The fans are the best – I always feel the love. Time flew by, I can’t believe it was almost two years ago. It’s time for some new music!
Is there anything else in the pipeline you’d like to share?
I have cool music this year and new music of course. It’s almost time. The movie I made with Jason Statham [Wrath of Man] comes out too, can’t wait to see that.
