Police search for suspects in violent gunfights in Astoria

ASTORIA, Queens (WABC) – Police are looking for suspects involved in a dramatic and violent shootout in Queens.

The firefight took place on 37th Avenue in Astoria early New Year’s Day.

Police say a person behind the van fired several shots at a group. One of the bullets hit a 19-year-old man in the stomach.

One of the men accompanying the victim then returned several shots. The suspect who fired the shots at the group fled the scene south on 13th Street in a gray four-door Infiniti.

The 19-year-old has been taken to a nearby hospital where he is admitted in stable condition.

The first suspect is described as a man of unknown clothing description. The second suspect is described as a black man who wore a black hoodie, a red jacket, black pants and white sneakers.
