Police continue to search for gunman after deadly shooting in Southwest Miami-Dade

COUNTY MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Police in Southwest Miami-Dade County are investigating a late morning shooting.

Authorities said three people were shot on Saturday, one of which has been pronounced dead.

Relatives told Local 10 that the shooter and the victims are all relatives.

It happened in a house and the police remained active in the area looking for the person who pulled the trigger.

Miami-Dade police responded to the house near 294th Street and 142nd Avenue after reports of shots fired just after 11:00 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found that three people had been shot and one killed.

“The other adult male and adult females were transported in critical condition to an area hospital by the Miami Dade Fire Department,” said Kristopher Welch, Miami-Dade Police Department detective.

Surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows a neighbor helping an injured woman escape the violence.

“I think he reacted like a hero because he lied to her and helped her get her there without endangering her life,” said Julio Magallan, whose son-in-law is seen in the video helping the woman who was shot. . .

Police said the 18-year-old gunman ran out of the house, prompting officers to quickly set up a perimeter as they searched for the suspect.

For hours, agents combed the Southwest Miami Dade neighborhood through the air and the ground looking for the man police say is armed and dangerous.

“Miami-Dade police have recovered two firearms on the spot,” said Det. Welch. “Although we cannot rule out the possibility that the subject is still armed.”

As the search progressed, detectives gathered clues and worked to find out what led to the shooting.

“There was a verbal dispute in the home that escalated and resulted in gunfire,” said Det. Welch.

Investigators said the shooter knew his victims, and relatives told Local 10 News they were all relatives.

Roy Ramos of the local 10 spoke to Mike Baker, the suspect’s uncle. Baker said he is still trying to understand why, he said, his cousin, identified as Ruben, opened fire on his own relatives.

“My cousin shot my dad and my sister,” Baker said. “Now I just heard that my sister’s son would be dead.”

Police have not yet released a description of the suspect.

Baker’s message to his cousin was to stop fleeing the police.

“I don’t want anyone to hurt you, but whatever you did, you have to go in, Cousin,” Baker said.

Anyone with information or who believes they know the suspect is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
