Pokemon Go’s Mareep Incense Day is today

Pokemon Go organizes an incense day to celebrate the arrival of Mega Ampharos in the game. From 11am to 5pm local time today, either Dragon-type or Electric-type Pokemon will spawn if you have incense active. Electric Pokemon will appear through Incense spawns from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm, while Dragon-type Pokemon will appear via Incense spawns from 1pm and 2pm and 4pm to 5pm. In addition, Mareep will appear more often from incense throughout the event. To help players participate in the Incense Day event, Pokemon Go sells 3 incense for 1 pocket coin.

In addition to Mareep appearing more often during the event, all Ampharos that evolved during the event will know the Dragon Pulse move, a move it could previously only learn during a Community Day 2018. Dragon Pulse is especially useful when Ampharos is Mega Evolving, as Mega Ampharos is an Electric / Dragon-type Pokemon and would receive an attack bonus of the same type when using the attack.

Pokemon confirmed to appear at the Incense Event include: Pikachu, Magnemite, Voltorb, Chinchou, Mareep, Plusle, Minun, Stunfisk, Horsea, Dratini, Trapinch, Vibrava, Swablu, and Bagon. Note that Plusle, Minun, and Bagon are all required to complete the Hoenn Celebration Event Collecting Challenge.

Besides today’s frankincense day, Pokemon Go also hosts the aforementioned Hoenn Celebration Event, which features increased spawns of various Pokemon from the Hoenn region. This includes the addition of Groudon and Kyogre in 5-Star Raids through tomorrow, Monday, January 25. The game then jumps into a Johto Celebration event that gives players the chance to evolve certain Pokemon to learn moves that were previously exclusive to older Community Days. All of these party events lead to the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto Ticket Event, which gives players the chance to catch shiny versions of every Pokemon from the Kanto region.
