The New Progressive Party announced through its social networks this afternoon that Governor Pedro Pierluisi asked that “as a precautionary measure given the increase in COVID-19 infections,” the event they planned to see the transmission of the state situation message on Capitol. Hill.
The event had been referred to as a “viewing party” by the party’s general secretary, Carmelo Ríos.
Despite the name they gave the event, in an interview with Puerto Rico Metro, the senator had assured that it would not be a “demonstration or a party,” so only 200 people will be admitted.
Popular representatives, such as Orlando José Aponte Rosario, came out yesterday to criticize the PNP-hosted event, calling it a “covid party.”
Prior to announcing the cancellation, the party invited people to see the message on the networks or on WIPR at 5:00 PM.
As a precautionary measure, the governor of Puerto Rico and the president of the PNP have requested that, given the increase in COVID-19 infections, the PNP-called for activity in the south wing of the Capitol be canceled for the general public. (1/2)
