The new loot shooter Outriders hasn’t even launched yet and players are already hard at work for some of the rarest gear in the game’s recent demo. According to the developers, it has gotten so out of hand that they have to patch it to make Legendary weapons more difficult to craft, before players break game progress.

“While we don’t want to prevent farming runs (we get it!), The loot cave discovered via the triple chest run, as well as the store operation, don’t feel like being in the spirit of the game,” one Outriders developers at People Can Fly (maker of Bullet storm wrote on the game’s subreddit“To that end, we’re redirecting farming efforts toward in-game mechanics that might be more fun for players to play through and repeat.”

Some of the specific changes coming in a patch to the demo scheduled to go live later today are as follows

  • Epic items no longer appear in stores and suppliers (within the demo).
  • Chests no longer drop Legendary items.
  • Side Quest rewards (on repeat runs) now get the chance to drop Legendary items.

However, the team stressed that the overall drop rates for enemy Legendary weapons “will NOT be changed”.

Launched on February 25, it didn’t take long for players to flock to the Outriders demo, become one of the best Steam downloads of the weekThey have quickly found ways to break through the game’s outdoor system as well, including discovering its own loot cave with a constantly respawning boss, and a mission with three chests players could farm in minutes without ever having to fight anything.

Part of the reason why players have done this is because Outriders is a really nice cover-based loot shooter, but the other reason is that all their progress from the demo will be carried over to the finished game when it comes out April 1st. People like to get a good head start, especially like met come to loot games.

In the past when exploits were discovered in Destiny or Hymn (RIP), they have been removed, partially to renew the life of the game and keep people grinding. People Can Fly has stated that emphatically Outriders however, is not a live service game, although it will continue to support it after releaseWe’ll see what that means in practice when it’s finally out.
