Players are at least halfway to kill 3.5 million Bowsers in Super Mario Bros. 35 Challenge

A few weeks ago, Nintendo announced the Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge, celebrating the reveal of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury by asking players to … kill Bowser. Like it, a lot of.

If players around the world collectively defeat 3.5 million Bowsers by January 25, 11:00 p.m. PT, any participating player who defeated at least one Bowser will receive 350 Platinum Points as a reward. The game will cease to exist on March 31, of course, so what better way to celebrate its final days than by relentlessly dumping Bowser into a barrel of lava over and over again? It’s what he would have wanted.

The event started on January 19, so it took players 6 days to reach 1,498,560 Bowsers. That is not the case, by the way really half way – more like 42% of the way. The remaining 2 million killed Bowsers must be reached in the next 13 hours. Unlikely? Well, we’ve seen nail-biting underdog wins last minute before, haven’t we?

[update: the figure in the tweet was actually achieved on the 20th January, so the 3.5 million Bowser goal is probably well within reach. That’s much better news!]

What do you think, folks? Will we have a win in the last hours, or will that 350 platinum point reward remain just out of reach?
