Milan failed to recapture first place, as Inter scored three goals in San Siro earlier this afternoon. The game ended 3-0 and the Rossoneri will certainly be disappointed. Below are the player ratings.
From XI
Donnarumma (5): Made some good saves on two low shots from Lukaku and Perisic, but could certainly have done better in the end for the third goal that was beaten at his near post.
Calabria (6): Both fullbacks struggled with Inter overloading the flanks and forcing more space on the opposite sides, allowing for a switch to 1v1’s against the fullback. Calabria handled its flank quite well given that difficult task.
Kjaer (4): Lost to Lautaro to the opening goal and looked shaky overall throughout the game, not the center-back’s best performance.
Romagnoli (3): Had the unenviable job of flagging Lukaku and just wasn’t able to beat the match. Time and again Lukaku received the ball with his back to Alessio and pretty much shut it down when he got time to give passes to runners, as evidenced by the second goal. It’s an incredibly difficult task to quit, but knowing it was coming he had to do better against that consistent style of holdup play.
Hernandez (5): Once again the fullback was suffocated for space to the left and when unable to take the lead, his crossing leaves a lot to be desired. Had a chance for an equalizer late in the first half, but cleared it just wide.
Tonali (5): Mostly anonymous throughout the game, but had a powerful shot saved by the stellar Handanovic, and also failed to take down Hakimi in the run-up to Inter’s second, when it was clear Hakimi would make a 4v2 game.
Kessie (5): Not the Ivorian’s best game, but not entirely his fault either, the instructions were clear that he had to push high which resulted in way too many 1v1’s for Lukaku against our defense.
Saelemaekers (4.5): Offered nothing on either side, his usual role provides a significant amount of coverage for Calabria, but that turned out to be lacking for much of this game.
Calhanoglu (5): Nowhere near what we’ve come to expect from the team’s best creative outlet, consistently lazy with his passing and frustratingly indecisive with his last ball, especially in a first-half opportunity that should have sent Rebic clear on goal, but in instead resulted in a goal.
Rebic (4): Not his type of game at all, because at Theo there was no space on the left side which severely limited his pace and without his pace he was actually a lame duck for the entire game.
Ibrahimovic (5): He forced two great saves from Handanovic straight out of half, but in the end he had to do better to make them practically impossible for the goalkeeper.
