In a new interview, Carti explains how he is just himself and wishes he had done that sooner. Playboi Carti is one of those artists that fans either love or hate and there really is no in between. This was especially true after his album Very Lotta Red came out. There were several people on the internet who quickly hated it, but if you really delve into the project you would quickly realize how unique and progressive it is. The punk influence is all over the album and there’s no denying that it does a lot of things really well. In the midst of it all, some fans have theorized that Carti is gay because of his mannerisms and his fashion sense. During a recent cover story with Highsnobiety, Carti spoke about these rumors, saying he’s just himself. Needless to say, Carti doesn’t care what you think. “If your crotch is straight I’ll turn my shit upside down,” Carti said. ‘If you hate cigarettes, I smoke as many as I can. I am against everything. I’m not going to do my best to get people to say, ‘Oh, where’s Carti at? Is he gay or is he dragging? ‘No, bro – I don’t give a fuck. I am myself. I wish I came in like this. But when you look at my career, you see little signs of that shit. Even when I wasn’t wearing all black and all that shit, I’ve always had a glimpse of this. ‘Oh yeah, bro here, he’s got a whole different shit’ – it always has been me.
