Pittsburgh Steelers’ Diontae Johnson explains for a 39-yard TD catch against Indianapolis Colts

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers’ score at the end of the third quarter will show up in the statistics as a touchdown of 39 yards, but Ben Roethlisberger’s ball to Diontae Johnson traveled about 50 yards in the air to put them within two scores of the Indianapolis Colts.

It was a drastic departure from the short passes and incompleteness that riddled through the first half of Sunday afternoon’s game against the Colts.

For most of the game, Roethlisberger looked like the quarterback who threw just 19 yards in the first half in Monday’s loss to the Bengals. But trailing 24-7 with just over three minutes to go in the third quarter, Roethlisberger unleashed his deepest throw of the game and hit Johnson in the end zone on the first game of their ninth drive.

The Steelers were about to be blown out in their last regular season home game of the season, but the Steelers desperately needed the touchdown – especially after the previous drive ended after a failed pass for the fourth time on the goal line. Despite a Colts penalty that put the ball on the 1-yard line, the Steelers failed to hit it in.
