Pierluisi responds with “enough of so much hypocrisy” to the Senate President’s message

Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia responded today, Sunday, to the message from Senate President José Luis Dalmau Santiago, reminding people that the people chose a state as their status.

“The vote for a state has the effect of unequivocally establishing that the will of the people of Puerto Rico is that we achieve a state as a state,” the president said in written statements.

He added that he is not surprised that Dalmau Santiago is content to have representation in the US Congress without a vote.

“We need those six additional people who are advocating for the equality of every American citizen in Puerto Rico. And there is no requirement that a territory must be incorporated before it becomes a state, and we who want equality want it. Complete, not half. ”, added Pierluisi Urrutia.

Likewise, he refuted that “Enough of so much hypocrisy or hooliganism,” because in his opinion it is not fair to demand equal treatment in federal programs while the vote for Puerto Ricans is rejected.

“To add insult to injury, the senator is using the fiscal plans and the imposition of the Fiscal Oversight Board as an excuse, when we all know that the government as a state is the first thing to go,” said Pierluisi Urrutia.

Likewise, the governor clarified that he agrees with Dalmau Santiago that the status issue is a serious matter, but that the people’s decision is over the republican system of government.

“Therefore, any legislative action aimed at ignoring the will of our people will be outright rejected by this minister and must be rejected by everyone,” said Pierluisi Urrutia.
