Pharmacist accused of tainting COVID-19 vaccine believed it would alter people’s DNA, officials say

OZAUKEE COUNTY – The pharmacist accused of deliberately spoiling nearly 600 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in a Grafton clinic first appeared in an Ozaukee court on Monday.

Steven Brandenburg is the pharmacist accused at Grafton Aurora Medical Center on December 24 of deliberately spoiling vaccine vials.

According to a likely cause, Brandenburg took the box containing the vaccine out of the refrigerator and left it for 12 hours, rendering it unusable.

Brandenburg told researchers he believed the vaccine was not safe for humans and “would harm them and alter their DNA,” according to the likely cause. Brandenburg is an ‘admitted conspiracy theorist’, according to Grafton police.

Brandenburg was arrested on Dec. 31 on charges of first-degree recklessness that compromised security, adulteration of a prescription drug and criminal damage to property.

57 people received the vaccine after it was left out, but it is believed to have no health damage, Aurora officials said.
