Petula Clark was shocked that ‘Downtown’ was playing before the bombing

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) – Singer Petula Clark expressed shock and disbelief that her 1964 hit “Downtown” aired just minutes before a bomb exploded in Nashville on Christmas morning.

“I was told the music in the background to that strange announcement – I was – was singing ‘Downtown’! Of all the thousands of songs – why this one? Clark wrote on a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Clark said she loved Nashville and wished she could hug everyone in town.

The explosion took place in the heart of Nashville’s historic downtown. In the explosion, the bomber was killed, several people were injured and dozens of buildings were damaged. The RV blared a warning that a bomb would detonate in 15 minutes, then switched to a pre-detonation recording of “Downtown”.

“(Millions of) people around the world are delighted by this joyous song,” wrote Clark. You may be able to read something else in these words – depending on your state of mind. It is possible.”
