Family, colleagues and fans today mourn the unexpected departure of prominent percussionist Jimmie Morales, who passed away at the age of 63.
The news was released by family members through social networks.
“To anyone who has met Jimmie in person or through music, we will let them know that he has left us. He flew into Heavenly Father’s arms. Our family has been devastated by this unexpected nightmare. Jimmie died at home surrounded by his wife Naomi and their daughter Amanda, ”they confirmed in a post on their Facebook account.
Morales had a successful career as a musician for large groups, including the orchestra conducted by Willie Rosario, Ismael Miranda, Tito Nieves and Gilberto Santa Rosa, who he accompanied musically for more than three decades.
“40 years of friendship, 40 years of music is the balance of the short but fruitful life of my dear Jimmie Morales. The surprising departure of this special being breaks my heart. I’m going to miss you, brother … Rest in peace ”, wrote the Caballero de la salsa next to a photo in which he appears with Morales.
Another famous person who mourned the death of Morales was the singer Charlie Aponte.
“I can’t believe it, it’s strong to accept it. This is a nightmare, many of our music colleagues have left us. The last time we shared with Jimmie was Wednesday January 13th in Rolo’s studio, where my most recent single Brazos Abiertas was recorded. There, as brothers, we share all those we include. Of course it was taken in turns because of the pandemic and because of that we couldn’t share as we would have liked. I was and will continue to be his admirer, because we know how great he was at playing the instrument. When he left the studio, he took a selfie with me to express how good he felt about sharing with some of us, ”said Aponte.
Likewise, he stated that “the world of music, of salsa, will not be the same without him. We will miss him, not only as a musician, but also as a person, as a friend, brother and his gift of being people. I never thought I would write this post today. Fly high, Jimmie. ‘
Likewise, announcer and program director for Z93, Marcos Rodríguez, known as El Cacique, regretted the news.
“It’s sad to wake up to the news that this amazing human is no longer with us… I hardly believe it. Rest in peace, my friend Jimmie Morales. The fragility of life never ceases to amaze me, ”said Rodríguez on his social networks.
Just a few months ago, the musician released the book Un conguero para la historia: Las memoria de Jimmie Morales, in which he reflected his experiences as one of the most influential percussionists in the salsa genre.
At this time, no details have been given about the funeral service.
