The prosecution challenged two judges from the first collegiate court of the national district to hear the merit trial of the six people involved in the Odebrecht case.
The challenge was filed by the Chief of the Special Prosecutor for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Wilson Camacho, against judges Tania Yunes and Jisell Narango, alleging that in the final decisions these magistrates made decisions in favor of the accused.
The prosecution asked the president of the court, Gisell Méndez, who was not challenged by the accusing body, to decide on the challenge filed against the two magistrates.
Judges Yunes and Naranjo, for their part, rejected the criteria for refusal, claiming that their decisions were in favor of the prosecution and in favor of the defendants’ defense.
At your side, the president of the court was of the opinion that she could not decide on that challenge as it is a decision consistent with the national district court of appeal.
Likewise, the court set the continuation of the hearing for March 11 and decided to send the hearing report to the appeals court for it to decide on the challenge.
This happens after the two magistrates, voting against by the president of the court, reversed a decision they had taken to dismiss the witness Juan Rojas, who drafted the report of the affidavits of four of the defendants who were civil servants.
He anticipated, the court dismissed an objection in the defense of accused Víctor Díaz Rúa, attempting to have his testimony dismissed as evidence responsible for the prosecution.
