Pence asks judge to end lawsuit and pressure him to disrupt election results

Vice President Mike Pence wants nothing to do with Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) latest bid to give him the power to reverse the results of the 2020 election. In a legal filing on Thursday, Pence argued that the Congressman’s lawsuit, which had been filed with other Republicans against the vice president, should instead be directed against Congress. “Complainants have brought before this Court an urgent motion that raises numerous weighty legal issues about how to count the election votes for the president,” Pence said. “But the lawsuit of these prosecutors is not an appropriate means of addressing those issues, because the prosecutors have charged the wrong defendant.” “A lawsuit to determine that the vice president has discretion over the count, filed against the vice president, is an ongoing legal contradiction,” adds the letter. Gohmert’s lawsuit alleges that a law over 100 years old dictating the electoral college process is unconstitutional, and Pence should be able to determine which electoral votes should be counted.
