Pelosi calls for election challenge: ‘No situation matches Trump’s presidency’

Speaker Nancy PelosiNancy Pelosi Governor of Kentucky calls vandalism in McConnell’s home ‘unacceptable’ Pelosi’s, McConnell’s homes destroyed as bill K-stimulus check fails Georgia keeps senate agenda in limbo MORE (D-Calif.) Told her Democratic colleagues in a Sunday letter that they would discuss the process for anticipated challenges to the House Republicans electoral college results during a call on Monday.

“Over the years, we have faced many challenges in Parliament, but none of them matches Trump’s presidency and Trump’s disrespect for the will of the people,” Pelosi wrote in her letter.

Pelosi outlined a plan for Democratic lawmakers as they prepare to certify electoral college votes this week.

“If a written objection is lodged by a member of the House and Senate, we then meet in our individual chambers for a debate of up to two hours. Only then will the members be recognized for speaking on the floor. Unless both the House if the Senate votes. To reject the election nomination for the state in question, the objection is dismissed, “Pelosi said.

More than 100 House Republicans are expected to challenge the results of the election in various battlefield states, and a dozen Senate Republicans have vowed to do so.

Any challenge would lead to a two-hour debate in both the House and Senate and a vote. It’s not clear how the results are being challenged, but Pelosi said it could be a long night.
