Paul, Taylor Greene hit Swalwell’s impeachment roll in China’s past

Senator Rand Paul calls on House Democrats for their choice of a congressman who once fell as impeachment manager for an accused Chinese spy in the Senate trial against former President Donald Trump

“This afternoon we were taught by Eric Swalwell, a man accused of dealing with a Chinese spy,” said Paul (R-Ky.) wrote on Twitter Wednesday afternoon after the California Democrat arguments before the Senate Chamber.

“How appropriate!” he added sarcastically.

Paul was outspoken in his opposition to the former commander-in-chief’s second impeachment, even attempting to advance a measure declaring it unconstitutional and then remarking that the vote had any chance of sentencing Trump as “dead on arrival.” “

On Wednesday, however, his tweet aimed directly at one of the managers.

In December, a bombshell Axios report revealed that Swalwell, a member of the powerful House Intelligence Committee, was the target of a suspected Chinese spy before fleeing the country in 2015.

The woman, named Christine Fang, joined a slew of U.S. elected officials, including Swalwell, in an attempt to infiltrate the U.S. political system, the paper reported, citing U.S. intelligence officials.

Following the disclosure, House and Senate Republicans began to express concerns about Swalwell’s continued membership in the powerful intelligence panel.

Those serving at House Intelligence have access to some of the country’s most classified national security secrets – raising questions about Swalwell’s suitability to serve on the panel.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Refused to resign the 40-year-old legislator, instead adding him to the House Committee on Homeland Security just a month after the espionage scandal broke out.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) Reiterated Paul’s disapproval of Swalwell’s presence in the impeachment process, write on Twitter Wednesday that the California Democrat “had a sexual relationship with a Chinese spy and sits on the Intel committee. And he is one of the impeachment managers. “

“China applauds your efforts, Rep. Swalwell,” the controversial GOP lawmaker continued.

Swalwell, who has been married and had two children since his relationship with Fang, has sidestepped questions about whether he had sex with the spy.

House Democrat staff have previously told The Post that such information is “classified.”

Swalwell claims he has not had any contact with Fang since the FBI warned him about her in 2015, and he has not been charged with any wrongdoing.
