The Kansas City Chiefs assured they had never seen their quarterback, Pat Mahomes, as accurate and intense as this Thursday, in his second and perhaps last full practice of the season, rested for the Super Bowl.
Wide receiver Tyreek Hill said Mahomes was impressed with the way he trained and that everyone realized his quarterback is ready for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.
“Pat’s going crazy, he’s on the beat,” Hill said. “I’ve never seen Pat photograph like this in practice. He’s given crazy passes. I am very excited. I just need to rub my hands for what’s to come. I am very excited ”.
Hill and the rest of the Chiefs had their last press session on Thursday, before playing the game that could make them the first two-time NFL championship team since the New England Patriots in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
“Pat has come here to change everything,” noted Hill. “Not only in the field, but also in the way of thinking and being competitive. I take off my hat for everything he has done and will do. “
Tight end Travis Kelce agreed that the team had a great pair of training sessions this week and that they are ready to compete against the Buccaneers.
“We are as ready as ever for a match,” he said. “We’ve been working hard for two weeks and we’re ready to apply what we’ve practiced.”
CHIEFS COME WITH A FUN FOR THE REFEREE
The Chiefs’ Head Coach, Andy Reid, said he is satisfied with the Super Bowl refereeing staff and knows well how the head official works, Carl Cheffers.
Cheffers led two games this season for the Chiefs, both victories, against division rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, in Week 2, and against the Las Vegas Raiders, on Matchday 11.
In fact, the Chiefs have never lost any of the five games Cheffers has coached since Pat Mahomes became the starting quarterback.
Cheffers will direct his second Super Bowl, after playing in the 2017 game that the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons.
IN BRIEF
– The Chiefs had full participation in practice for the second day in a row, with the exception of their two players who were already excluded from the Super Bowl due to injury; left tackle Eric Fisher (Achilles tendon) and linebacker Willie Gay Jr. (knee and ankle).
The two Kansas City players removed from the team by the Covid-19 protocol, center Daniel Kilgore and receiver DeMarcus Robinson, all tested negative for being near a Covid-infected barber on Sunday. If they come out negative this Friday, they can play the Super Bowl on Sunday with the rest of their teammates.
– The Chiefs’ experience is 34 games combined with 33 players; the only player with multiple Super Bowls on his Kansas City resume is Stefen Wisniewski, with two.
