Passengers are suing United Airlines for the engine explosion

Two passengers on board a United Airlines plane that had to make an emergency landing in February after an engine failure, the airline reports, NBC News reports.

The lawsuit, filed Friday, alleges that the incident injured passengers personally, emotionally and financially.

Joseph McGinley of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jonathan Strawn of Sioux City, Iowa, were fleeing from Denver to Honolulu when one of the plane’s engines broke down. Passengers noted that during the incident they heard an explosion and saw a flash of light.

Both McGinley and Strawn are aiming for judgments above a $ 50,000 limit, NBC reports.

Following the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered the review of all aircraft with the engine type that failed on the Boeing 777.

The incident occurred shortly after another United Airlines flight had an engine with a mechanical failure. A flight bound for Los Angeles returned to Newark Liberty International Airport shortly after takeoff in January after the engine caught fire.

United Airlines declined to comment on The Hill.
