Paris Hilton says she burst into tears after learning that Sarah Silverman had apologized for cruelly mocking her with a crude sex joke at an awards ceremony in 2007.
‘I was just shocked when I read [her apology] first and pleasantly surprised… She was so genuine and so sweet and it really moved me, ”Hilton said on an impromptu episode of her podcast ‘This Is Paris’ on Friday.
“I just felt emotional when I heard it and I could see that she really meant what she said when she apologized.”
Silverman had issued her mea culpa on Thursday for hurling a raunchy comic insult at Hilton at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, which was the same day the hotel heiress turned herself into jail for driving violations.
“I’ve heard that, to put her at ease in prison, the guards are going to paint the bars to look like penises,” said Silverman at Hilton’s time. “I’m just afraid she’s going to break her teeth on those things.”
Hilton, now 40, said on her podcast earlier this week that she “literally wanted to run out of all the room,” when Silverman started cutting into her.
“But I just tried to be strong and sit there while the whole audience laughed,” she said.
‘It was so painful, especially with what I was going through in my life, to let people be so mean about it. It was really difficult. “
Upon hearing Hilton’s comments, Silverman apologized to Hilton.
“I regretted the jokes not years later, but more or less immediately,” said the 50-year-old comic in Thursday’s episode of “The Sarah Silverman Podcast.”
Silverman said that when she saw Hilton’s response to the joke, her “ heart sank ” and she actually wrote a letter of apology to Hilton.
But after hearing Hilton talk about it last week, the “School of Rock” actress realized that Hilton had never received it.
“So here I am, 14 years later, I’m telling you, Paris, I’m really sorry,” said Silverman. “I was then and am now, much more fully and with much more understanding, I think, now.” She added that comedy is “not evergreen” and it should change over time.
The former “Simple Life” star went on to record a new episode of her podcast in which she said she really appreciated Silverman’s apology and that it “means a lot” and even brought a little tears to her eyes.
“I’m glad her comedy has grown and she realizes it’s no fun making fun of people,” she said.
Hilton turned herself into prison after the awards ceremony wrapped up. She served three days in jail until she was released for an undisclosed medical condition and was placed under house arrest for 40 days, according to ABC.
Silverman was also pranked earlier this year for making jokes about Britney Spears during the same performance on the MTV Awards show in 2007.
Have you seen Britney’s kids? They are the most adorable mistakes you’ll ever see, “Silverman had said during the brutal toasting, adding that by the age of 25, the singer” had already achieved everything she will achieve in her life.
Silverman responded to critics of the re-emerging joke said she wished she could remove it, but failed to apologize to pop star “Womanizer”.
