PA COVID: Tracking Vaccine Supply Status in Suburban Philadelphia

NORRISTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – If you’ve tried to get the COVID-19 vaccine in suburban Philadelphia counties, you may feel frustrated.

Currently, the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania receives an average of 175,000 doses per week from the federal government for about 12 million Pennsylvania residents. Many in southeastern Pennsylvania are feeling the effects of the shortage.

In Delaware County, the mass vaccination site in Yeadon remains closed due to a lack of vaccine supplies.

“I think we applied for 3,000; I think we got 1,200. I mean we can do that in two days,” said Brian Zidek, chairman of the Delaware County Council.

However, he says their Aston location in the Aston Community Center is open by appointment only, but there are 24 other local vaccine suppliers in the county, such as pharmacies and doctor’s offices offering doses. County officials have no control over those locations or how many doses they receive.

You must also register online for each location on their respective web pages. The province has listed them on their COVID-19 information website.

“If we could wave a magic wand, we would have one centralized booking that would attract all registrations, but there is no such system,” said Zidek.

In Montgomery County, they had to close their county-run vaccination center at Norristown High School. They also don’t have enough vaccines.

Local providers vaccinate residents, but you are urged to check their individual sites for availability. For those who do not have internet access in Montgomery County, you can call this hotline: 833-875-3967.

In Bucks County, they operate clinics on their three local community college campuses. At the moment, however, the Newtown Campus is waiting for more vaccines to become operational.

“We’re almost done with the first responders; all the health workers. We didn’t start vaccinating until yesterday, 85 and older,” said Bucks County Commissioner Diane Marseglia.
