Performances of the nominated songs are broadcast during the pre-show, instead of the main show, and the winners’ figurines are engraved during the post-show.
Contrary to tradition, performances of the Oscar nominees for this year’s best original song will be aired during the Oscars pre-show, not the main ceremony itself, the producers of the 93rd Oscars announced Friday.
The performances will be pre-recorded prior to the April 25 broadcast. “Fight for You” (Judas and the Black Messiah), “Hear my voice” (The Chicago Trial 7), “I do (Seen)” (Life ahead) and “Speak Now” (One night in Miami) will be recorded on the Dolby Family Terrace at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, while “Husavik” (Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga) will come from Husavik, Iceland.

“We’ve come up with serious pre-game and post-game action to enhance our main event,” said Oscar producers Jesse Collins Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh said in a statement. “Our suggestion is just tune in to the whole bitch, otherwise you’ll miss out on something really unexpected and fun.”
The 90-minute pre-show to the Oscars, Oscars: In the spotlight, which begins on ABC at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT, is presented by actors Ariana DeBose Hamilton) and Lil Rel Howery Bad trip) and highlights the nominees’ journey to Hollywood’s biggest night and gives fans a taste of the party. After the Oscars airing ends, there is a post show, Oscars: After Dark, is broadcast on ABC. Hosted by actors Colman Domingo Ma Rainey’s black bottom) and Andrew Rannells The Prom), it summarizes key moments of the ceremony, shows winners having their figurines engraved, and includes interviews moderated by film critic Elvis Mitchell
Both specials are executive produced by Michael Antinoro and David Chamberlin, alongside producers Collins, Sher and Soderbergh.
