Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin has been awarded a new contract after leading the rebels to an Outback Bowl berth and setting SEC attack records in his first season.
“This is an investment in the future of Ole Miss football,” athletic director Keith Carter said in a statement Saturday. “We hired Coach Kiffin in hopes of reviving our football program, and in just a short year he has done just that. His innovative offensive approach has shattered SEC records and with a top 20 recruiting course coming in The future is bright under Coach Kiffin’s leadership. We are committed to him and provide the resources needed to take this program to greater heights. “
Ole Miss has not released any financial details about Kiffin’s new contract.
Under the terms of its original deal, the contract was for four years and was worth $ 16.2 million. Kiffin, 45, earned a $ 3.9 million salary for the 2020 season, and that total would increase by $ 100,000 each season. By law in Mississippi, college employees cannot be on contracts for more than four years.
“I appreciate Keith’s leadership and dedication to building a winning football program,” said Kiffin. “While I am proud of what our team has accomplished this season, we have higher ambitions for Ole Miss football. This is just the beginning and I look forward to building a championship program further.”
The Rebels, who finished fifth in the SEC West with 4-5 this season, set the SEC record for all-out attack in conference games (562.4 YPG). They were in the top 20 in the FBS in 10 categories, including total foul, scoring foul, rush foul, passing foul and first downs.
