Users streaming YouTube on old Apple TV boxes will have to find another way to watch, as the devices lose support for the YouTube app next month. The 3rd generation devices released in 2012 will soon no longer be compatible with the YouTube app. Instead, you have to use airplay if you want to stream on your TV.
Here is the message that pops up on the Apple TV 3rd generation user screens:
As of early March, the YouTube app will no longer be available on Apple TV (3rd generation). You can still watch YouTube on Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, iPhone or iPad. AirPlay also allows you to stream YouTube directly from your iOS device to any Apple TV (3rd generation or later).
If you’re still using an old model and want to upgrade, now’s the time to do so before YouTube support leaves next month. Fortunately, the latest Apple TV 4K streaming device retails for just $ 149.99, instead of $ 169.99 for the 32 GB.
