Ohio State’s Ryan Stamper is leaving OSU for the Urban Meyer staff in JAX

It was the question and concern for everyone when former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer accepted the head coach position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Would Meyer bring any of the current OSU staff to build his NFL world domination efforts in JAX?

Apparently, Meyer doesn’t believe that’s in his or the state of Ohio’s best interests, but he did pull the trigger on a current staff member, Ryan Stamper. Stamper held the position as the assistant athletic director of player development in Columbus, but played for Meyer in Florida as a two-time captain, winning national titles in 2006 and 2008.

After a short spell without football, Stamper was hired in the state of Ohio in 2012, where he has been since. He helps lead the “Real-Life Wednesdays” and other initiatives designed to help the athlete holistically balance football and life off the field. His loss has been greatly underestimated, but it appears to be the only staff hit OSU will take from Meyers’ relapse into coaching. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to make the news.

Stamper is originally from Jacksonville, so it’s also a chance to come home. It’s hard to blame a guy for that and we wish him the best.
