NYPD agent shot in Brooklyn saved by bulletproof vest

A police officer was shot in the back in Brooklyn on Thursday night – and could have been rescued when the bullet hit the back armor of his protective vest, sources said.

The officer was responding to a domestic dispute at 1606 Prospect Place in Crown Heights just after 9 p.m., when the shooter opened fire, according to police sources.

The culprit was on his way to his girlfriend’s house when he reportedly told her he had a gun and would open fire when he got there, the sources said.

Police arrived at the property after the girlfriend’s mother called 911.

The officers were talking to the younger woman when the suspect arrived, shot the officer and fled, the sources said. He was arrested a short time later

The girlfriend’s mother then called 911 and the shooter fled, according to sources.

The agent was rushed to Kings County Hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Police officers gathered at the hospital late Thursday night to offer their support.

Sources said the shooter was arrested shortly after the shooting. The suspect has not yet been identified and a motive for the attack was unclear at the end of Thursday.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force was also on the scene.
