NUECES COUNTY, Texas – Judge Barbara Canales in Nueces County issued a statement after local health officials announced more than 400 new COVID-19 cases.
Thursday night, the Nueces County Public Health District reported 438 new COVID-19 cases. Judge Canales said the number of new cases is alarming news.
“We are analyzing the data to see if we need to take action to contain local outbreaks, and to see if any anomalies in reporting contributed to this sharp one-day increase in the number of cases. We cannot consider this an anomaly. – we should take this as an urgent warning, especially because of the holiday gatherings that are now taking place, ”Canales stated.
She added that local doctors are assessing their ability to respond to a sustained increase in the number of positive cases. The Nueces County judge said she will be proactive in seeking help through the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) if officials anticipate an increase in hospital admissions based on the wave of positive cases.
Canales stated, “I urge all residents of Nueces County to take every precaution to reduce the chances of exposure to the coronavirus. And while we talk about practicing the 3 W’s – wearing a mask, washing your hands, Watch Your Distance – It’s important to follow all precautions advised by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “
