I know big and screamy gaming phones aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but you still have to appreciate it when a company puts in its effort for performance. That is exactly what Nubia has done with the new Red Magic 6.

The base model of the Red Magic contains a huge, 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a resolution of 2400 x 1080, along with a Snapdragon 888 chip, 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, depending on your configuration. Nubia even increased the Red Magic’s sample rate by several fingers to 360Hz to ensure competitive mobile gamers get the most responsive input possible, while also adding touch-sensitive triggers to the edge of the phone.

Nubia calls the Red Magic Mecha Sci-Fi’s in-your-face design, which sounds about right. The phone looks like it would naturally blend into one Gundam delivery. There’s also a 64MP main camera complemented by an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera, with Nubia even throwing in an assortment of cyberpunk-inspired filters.

Nubia offers a lot of software adjustments, such as Tencent’s Mobile Game Accelerator and Solar Core Engine, in addition to Red Magic’s RAM Boost and Frame Optimization 2.0 for extra sharp performance. And just in case that’s not enough, Nubia said the Red Magic 6 has a multi-dimensional cooling system that uses 13 temperature sensors, an air duct, thermal gel, graphene and more to keep the phone from overheating. There is even one clip-on fan, which seems like an exaggeration to me, but I think you can never have enough cooling.

Finally, the Red Magic 6 comes with a 5,050 mAh battery, a headphone jack and a charging power of 65 watts. But again, that’s just the standard model. If you switch to the Red Magic 6 Pro, you get 12 GB or 16 GB RAM, a faster cooling fan, 120 watts of charging and an extra aluminum heat plate for, you guessed it, more cooling. Unfortunately, the Red Magic 6 Pro’s overall capacity drops due to that plate, leaving a 4,500mAh power pack.

But the real Mechazord is the Red Magic 6 “Dao” edition, which has a transparent back with an RGB-lit fan and a whopping 18GB of RAM, which is probably more to boast than any kind of tangible performance punch. There’s also some more obvious Tencent branding, so you don’t forget who collaborated on the device.

T.The Red Magic 6 costs between 3,800 yuan (about $ 585) for the base model and up to 6600 yuan (about $ 1,015) for the fully loaded Dao edition with 18 GB RAM. But if you live outside of China and are If you want to get serious about it, you might want to wait another 10 days as Nubia has a global launch event for the Red Magic 6 scheduled for March 16.
