When former President Donald Trump first moved into the White House in January 2017, his staff said they found nasty notes in the drawers and cupboards – a claim President Barack Obama’s aides vehemently denied.
But comedian Dave Chappelle now says the notes did exist – but were written by a group of unnamed, mischievous celebrities during a leaving party for the departing administration.
“Remember when the Trump administration moved in, they said Obama staff left dirty notes for us in all the drawers and all the closets?” Chappelle said in a new episode of Naomi Campbell’s “No Filter” YouTube series published Tuesday.
‘I saw this happen. I’m not going to say who did it, ”he continued.
But it was celebrities who wrote all these crazy things and put them all there. I saw them do it so when I saw it on the news I laughed really hard. “
Chappelle said the notes were left during one of the last White House shindigs thrown by the Obama family before leaving at the start of Trump’s tenure.
In 2019, former Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham said the messages contained harsh comments such as “You’re going to fail” and “You’re not going to make it.”
An ex-assistant said at the time: “It was a mess that first week.”
‘Yes, there were mean notes in strange places. One in a deputy press secretary’s office, one in a top press desk drawer, another on a bathroom mirror. They were all about how we were doomed to fail, ”said the former assistant.
Those notes certainly happened. They even left us Russian vodka in the cupboard, ”added another source at the time.
‘They were trolling us from the moment we got there. It was absolutely ridiculous. We were trying to find the bathroom and we get these notes that say, “You won’t make it” and “You’re not going to make it.” ”
Former Obama workers denied they were responsible for the notes and some even said Grisham should be fired over the claim. Former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice described the allegations as a “bare lie”.
