NoSavesies: Saving parking spots starts when Philadelphia pulls itself out of the winter storm

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – As Philadelphia continues digging from Monday’s winter storm, keeping your shoveled parking space can be the biggest challenge.

Folding chairs and orange construction cones are just a few of the items residents will use to claim their space.

“Salvation” is an unspoken rule in most neighborhoods, although you can’t spare a parking space in town – it’s the law.

George Harvey says he has no problem moving the cone.

“Oh yeah, I’ll move them. I don’t think it’s right. Everyone’s digging,” said Harvey.

In South Philadelphia, it’s no secret that parking is excellent.

“Parking is usually difficult. Snow makes it more difficult,” said one resident.

In bad weather, residents often resort to their old school manners.

“I’ve used a cone before. (It’s) absolutely the right choice. I see a lot of people doing it, so why not join in?” said Tommy Dempsey, a native of South Philly.

The city reminds residents that saving parking spaces is prohibited. Those who excavate their cars are asked not to dump the snow on the street.
