A college student in Norway peed in front of the camera to win a crazy $ 5,000 contest – but the money was confiscated by customs officials and he never saw a penny of it, he told the Post.
“It’s wrong to take the money I worked for,” said Dan Holt, a 23-year-old from Haugesund. “I’ve been questioned by the police, but I can’t blame this.”
Holt first heard about the so-called “5,000 challenge” that Finnish sunglasses company Nopeet held on Instagram in November, he said.
The company urged participants to film themselves doing the most “insane” stunt possible and then say “Nopeet made me do it!” and post the images along with a company hashtag, according to a message announcing the contest.
“I thought, I’m going to try,” said Holt, adding that he needed the money. “It sounded nice and I like to push myself.”
To win, Holt dressed up as Santa Claus and took a tear of tobacco at a local mall, then vomited and rode his bicycle into an icy river. He later shot images of himself peeing his pants at the mall while onlookers yawn.
“Everyone had their mouths open,” he said. ‘People said, what’s going on? But the whole point was to do the craziest thing possible. “
He posted the wild images to Instagram and learned on January 5 that he had won and that he would receive cash from the company in the mail.
For dramatic effect, the company put the money in a Bible and asked him to film himself opening it, Holt said.
But the “sketchy-looking” package was seized by Norwegian customs days later, and Holt was later questioned by Haugesund police for not giving up a large sum of money, Holt said.
Nopeet quickly defended him by posting a photo of the cash-filled Bible on Instagram, along with the caption “This is UNFAIR!”
“The Norwegian authorities did not participate in the # NopeetMadeMeDoIt challenge and are now trying to steal @igordieseltv’s prize money by confiscating it. This is unfair! If they wanted the prize money, they should have taken part in the challenge, ”the company said.
The company added: “Our lawyers are already indicting the Norwegian authorities. “
Holt now says he just wants his hard-earned money.
‘I haven’t done anything illegal. I was just the winner of the competition, ”he said. “That’s a lot of money for me. It would help me move forward in life. “
He added, “I think I now know I have to declare money, but that’s probably the only lesson I’ve learned … Making the videos was still fun.”
Norwegian customs and Haugesund police did not immediately return a request for comment on Thursday.
