BISMARCK, ND (AP) – North Dakota health officials said Sunday that the state’s COVID-19 update reported no deaths for the second consecutive day and showed another drop in hospital admissions.
The number of people needing care in medical facilities has decreased by 13 to 72 in the past two days. Ten patients are currently being treated in intensive care. The state hospital tracker reports that there are 34 staffed ICU beds and 371 staffed hospital beds available in North Dakota.
The number of fatalities due to complications from the coran virus stands at 1,352. Data collected Saturday by researchers at Johns Hopkins University ranks North Dakota in the sixth place in the country per capita with approximately 178 deaths per 100,000 people.
Health officials said 93 of the 3,352 virus tests processed in the last day were positive, or 3.16% of them. A total of 94,716 cases have been confirmed since the start of the pandemic.
The North Dakota mask mandate is in effect until January 18.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, which resolve within two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and those with pre-existing health conditions, it can cause more serious illness, including pneumonia and death.
