Denmark-based Nordisk Games has announced that it has acquired 40% of Spain-based developer MercurySteam.

MercurySteam is best known in recent years for its excellent 3DS release in 2017, Metroid: Samus Returns. It has also been previously worked on series like Castlevania, including its 2013 release Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate.

As emphasized by VGC, Nordisk Games now has a portfolio of eight European game studios. These companies include Avalanche Studios Group (Just cause), Raw Fury (Call of the sea), and a handful of others.

Nordisk Games senior partner Martin Walfisz made the following statement about MercurySteam:

“MercurySteam’s track record speaks for itself, and the games they have now in development are extremely promising and exciting.”

MercurySteam’s CEO and Co-Founder Enric Alvarez is also delighted that the studio is entering a “new era of consolidation and growth”.

‘Since the first time we met them [Nordisk], we were very clear that both parties shared the same DNA, the same ambition and the same goals … The saying ‘The best is yet to come’ now takes on all meaning. “

By owning less than 50 percent of the companies it acquires, Nordisk can ensure that studio founders have “control over their own destiny.”

The most recent release of MercurySteam was the 2017 free-to-play action adventure game Spacelords.
