No, 500,000 GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs were not found in lost shipment

There’s a story floating around that 500,000 boxed GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards were discovered in a shipping container – disappeared in transit, but that story was BS.

Geeknetic.es first reported the story that, when put into Google Translate, spits out that a Samsung subsidiary has found a stack of boxes with NVIDIA logos somewhere in South Korea. This staffer noted that the shipment was not on the port administration.

The executive had himself tried to purchase a GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card, and after seeing the hundreds of boxes of NVIDIA products, “only added to my frustration of not getting one“.

The RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090 are still hard to find. A shortage fueled by strong demand, excessively long production cycles and the global pandemic that is not making things any easier. Good news, because a South Korean port operator just got hold of a lost shipment of 500,000 GeForce RTX 3000 cards!

As soon as the news set the internet on fire, the author of the original piece added: “This is a fake news story created and published on December 28 in celebration of the Day of the Holy Innocence in Spain. Its content is fake and created with a satirical, humorous purpose. We hope you enjoyed reading it“.

Sigh.
