Nintendo seemingly hints at the next console’s release date after the Switch

The Nintendo Switch has been out for almost four years now, but it is still in high demand, and at the moment it shows no signs of slowing down. It’s unlikely to be able to beat the Nintendo DS as Nintendo’s best-selling hardware, but it’s on track to beat the Nintendo Wii and maybe even the Game Boy, Nintendo’s third and second best-selling consoles , respectively. The aforementioned DS stands at approximately 154 million units sold. Again, this will be hard to beat. However, the Wii and Game Boy are a pretty reasonable 101 million and 118 million.

As of November 2020, Nintendo has sold 68 million Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite units. To achieve the aforementioned hardware, it takes not only a few more years on the market, but a few more years as the primary Nintendo system. That said, it sounds like it will be Nintendo’s primary console for at least another 3-5 years, which means that as long as current trends continue, it should be Nintendo’s second best-selling console at the end of its life. .

In a conversation with Polygon, Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America president, confirmed that the Nintendo Switch is at the “center” of its lifecycle. In March, the Nintendo Switch will turn four years old, meaning it’s safe to assume it will be Nintendo’s console for another four years. Of course, there could be a more powerful revision, but at this point Nintendo denies that a “Nintendo Switch Pro” is in the works.

If the Nintendo Switch will have a lifecycle of around 8 years, that would mean Nintendo’s next console should be out around 2025. For now this is just an assumption, but it’s what Bowser suggests when he says the Switch is on the halfway point.

For now this is all a bit speculative, but it does at least give us a rough roadmap of the future and more or less confirms that at least we won’t be seeing a brand new piece of substantial hardware from the company. several years.

If Nintendo provides more information or clarification on Bowser’s comment, we’ll be sure to update the story. In the meantime, for more coverage on all things Nintendo – including all the latest news, rumors, leaks, deals, guides, reviews and more – click here.
