Nintendo is sharing more information about the amiibo functionality of their Power-up Band theme park

As teased in the recent Direct, you can use them with the Switch

Nintendo recently shared more information about Super Nintendo World through a physical walking tour with Mario’s father: Shigeru Miyamoto. It was amazing! Go check it out.

Back? You may have noticed that at one point in the video Nintendo teased the Power-Up Bands (which are basically a form of Magic Bands from Disney parks) and some form of Switch functionality. Well, thanks to a new landing site, we now know a bit more about how all of that is going to work.

According to the site, amiibo matches the character on the tape itself. So the above red band with the red “M” for Mario becomes a “Mario amiibo”. Other bands are Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad and Yoshi. The bands are used directly with the Switch NFC point on the Joy-Con or Pro Controller, but “are not compatible with the 3DS or Wii U.”

The bands will of course also work in the park as a kind of scoring device, interacting with different “activities”. I wonder how they will play in the US version of the park with long lines.
